He is one of 4 sons, having a dad, Edward Zuckerberg, who was a dentist and a mom, Karen Zuckerberg, working as a psychiatrist. His dad owned a dental clinic adjacent to the house Mark had been living in alongside his three siblings Randi, Arielle, and Donna.

During elementary school, Mark was already taken with technology. When he was 10 years old, Mark figured out that the world revolved around the works of programmers and how they serve consumers. At this very age, he got his first PC was Quantex 486DX on Intel 486.

His dad taught Atari Fundamental Programming, and when Mark was around twelve, he utilized Atari BASIC to build a messenger he named “ZuckNet.” This allowed all the machines in his home to be linked to each other and enabled messages to be transmitted in his house as well as the dental office. His dad had the messenger installed on his clinic phone so that his receptionist could inform him when a new patient entered.

Mark also loved designing games and other methods of communication just for fun, as he said. His dad thus employed David Newman, who was a tech teacher, to offer his son a few private lessons.

Later, Mark taught at Phillips Exeter Academy, an exclusive New Hampshire preparatory academy. There, he showed some impressive science and literary performances, achieving a degree in classics. He also showed tremendous fencing ability, and thus became the fencing team’s school president. But Mark always remained intrigued by computing, which is why he decided to work on major software creation.

In 2002, Zuckerberg attended Harvard University, after graduating from Phillips Exeter. He’d earned a reputation as a college software developer during his 2nd year in the Ivy League school.

The Success Story

The Success Story

Even though Harvard University was full of some of the smartest people, Mark Zuckerberg soon became recognized on campus as the go-to programmer. He developed two systems during his sophomore year: FaceMash and CourseMatch. These systems were highly popular, but the university considered the latter inappropriate. Which is why it was soon closed down.

Based on the popularity on campus, Zuckerberg joined with friends to build a social media platform that would allow students from Harvard to interact with each other. This web officially went online under the label “The Facebook” in June 2004 as Zuckerberg operated this out of his dormitory. Zuckerberg then dropped out of university during his junior year to join what was then named Facebook, full time. Around the end of that year itself, the platform exceeded one million subscribers.

This user growth boom caught the attention of several venture capital companies, and so, in 2005, Zuckerberg finally moved out to Silicon Valley. Facebook secured its first round of funding in venture capital from Accel Partners. Who spent $12.7 million in the platform, that too when it was still only available to Ivy League graduates.

Facebook had however opened up to students who attend other colleges by the end of the year 2005. Allowing the service to surpass 5.5 million subscribers. Facebook received numerous takeover proposals from the companies of Yahoo or Microsoft since then, along with some lawsuits. Regardless, its subscriber base only kept increasing significantly.

Facebook published its Q3 results on Oct. 30, 2019. The company announced a total of 1.62 billion daily active users for September 2019, a year-over-year growth of 9 percent. Registered monthly users counted a total of 2.45 billion, a year-over-year growth of 8 percent. As of January 30th, 2020, the firm has a $598 billion market valuation. And Zuckerberg owns more than 375 million Facebook stocks and 60 percent of voting rights in this company.
